Box Elder County zoning code

5-6-020 Purpose

Unofficial copy. It may be out of date. Not legal or zoning advice. Zoning rules change, and only the city or county can say for sure what is allowed on a property. Confirm with the city or county planning department before you buy, sign or build. The official Box Elder County code is at https://www.boxeldercountyut.gov/241/Land-Use-Management-Development-Code. Text pulled 2026-10-19 from this source. Chapter 5-4 (Flood Damage Prevention) is a scanned image on the county's site and is not included. Tables (like use tables) may not copy cleanly, so check any table against the official code. Confirm anything here with Box Elder County planning before you rely on it.
The county recognizes that accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and internal accessory dwelling units (IADUs) in zones that allow a single-family residence can be an important tool in the overall housing plan for the county. The purposes of the ADU standards of this code are to: A. Allow opportunities for property owners to provide social or personal support for family members where independent living is desirable. B. Develop housing units in single-family neighborhoods that are appropriate for people at a variety of stages in the life cycle. C. Provide for affordable housing opportunities. D. Preserve the character of single-family neighborhoods by providing standards governing development of ADUs.
