Cleveland zoning code

2-5-2.1 INTENT

Unofficial copy. It may be out of date. Not legal or zoning advice. Zoning rules change, and only the city or county can say for sure what is allowed on a property. Confirm with the city or county planning department before you buy, sign or build. The official Cleveland code is at http://www.clevelandtown.org/planning--zoning.htm. Text pulled 2026-10-19 from this source. Zoning ordinance only; the subdivision ordinance is a scanned image on the town's site and is not included. Tables (like use tables) may not copy cleanly, so check any table against the official code. Confirm anything here with Cleveland planning before you rely on it.
The R-1 Residential zone covers the portion of the town which is primarily suited for residential development represented by a co-mingling of one-family, twofamily, and multi-family dwellings, plus parks, playgrounds, schools, churches, and other community facilities designed to serve the residents of the zone. This zone is characterized by spacious lots, un-crowded buildings, and quiet residential conditions which are favorable to the rearing of children. Owners and developers of property within this zone should bear in mind that primacy is given to residential development and maintain their properties in recognition thereof.
